Democrats Eating Their Young
Now that the dust has settled from the blowout win in South Carolina for Barack Obama I’m beginning to wonder if the Democrats are blowing the best chance they’re getting to regain control of The White House. Before the vote there had taken place we went through a week or so of negative stories regarding the two major Democratic candidates. As John Edwards so rightly pointed out, there are 3 people in the race and in my opinion only one of them has behaved Presidentially in the past week.
As a very liberal minded person with a keen interest in American Politics the closest party to my beliefs out of the major two are obviously the Democrats. Yet, nothing annoys me more than negative campaigns. A political campaign shouldn’t be about why people shouldn’t vote for your opponent but why they should vote for you. In defence of Barack Obama he was right with his views on Bill Clinton doing most of Hillary’s dirty work and the candidates have kept it to a minimum thus far but it could well be the tip of the iceberg.
After major gains in the midterms in 2006, seizing control of the House and with Bush on his way out of what looks like a devastating 8 years for America it would appear that the Democrats have a ridiculous chance to elect a President of their choice and yet the continual squabbling is only damaging the reputation of the party. It really makes you wonder how bad the General Election is going to be.
At least Super Tuesday may be a day for all candidates to redeem themselves but I wouldn’t hold your breath!

You ever read that book “The Political Brain” by Drew Westen? It’s pretty hard to get hold of over here, I had to order it from the US but that was a few months ago. Anyway, this is just the sort of shit it was on about, negative campaigning against fellow democrats fucking themselves up and then being toothless bitches against the Republicans (naturally, in case they get accused of negative campaigning, which the Republicans do all the time but don’t get any hassle for). I’ve not read it but going by your description it sounds like the sort of thing that would interest me. I occasionally read The Onion, that is yet again a fantastic bit of comedy right there!
